How do know if I’m eligible to apply for financial aid (FAFSA)?

Regular students, both US citizens and eligible non-citizens can qualify for financial aid. The application will notify you if you don't meet the basic criteria to apply. The FAFSA is just the first step in the process to find out if you are eligible to receive financial aid at Chemeketa. 

Listed below are the estimated costs you may incur for attending Chemeketa Community College full-time (12 or more credits) for one term during the 2024-25 school year.  Financial aid is available for part-time study and the costs listed below will be appropriately prorated.  Visit the Tuition and Fee page for updates about tuition and fee costs.

Yes! Apply for financial aid at studentaid.gov.(click here to view our summer term deadlines) and enroll in summer classes when registration opens.

Summer term aid includes Pell Grant, FSEOG, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Direct Loans.

Certain types of aid are not available. These include Oregon Promise Grant, Oregon Opportunity Grant, and Chemeketa Foundation Scholarships.

You must be enrolled in a minimum of 1 credit hour to have eligibility for the Pell Grant, and a minimum of 6 credit hours to be eligible for FSEOG grant, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Direct Loans.

Enrollment Levels for summer term:

• Full-Time = 12 or more credits
• ¾ Time = 9-11 credits
• ½ Time = 6-8 credits
• Less Than ½ Time = 1-5 credits

If summer is not included in your financial aid award, you can submit a Request for Change form to update your expected summer term enrollment plan.

Federal Work-Study is awarded based on need and availability of funds. You will receive instructions for the process if you are awarded.

Summer term credits count towards the 90 credit limit for Oregon Promise students. You can find more information at OregonStudentAid.gov.

Chemeketa Scholars students will be covered for the summer term between your first and second year, but only if you take a minimum of 12 credits. Email Scholars if you have questions.

Apply as early as possible with a new FAFSA for each school year.  October 1st is always the first day to apply for the next school year.  The entire process can take several months depending on the time of year.  Apply by our recommended application deadline to make sure you have enough time to complete the process before the term you want to attend.  

Once you have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and completed any outstanding requirements shown in MyChemeketa, the Financial Aid Office will determine your eligibility for financial aid.  We will issue a Financial Aid Offer in MyChemeketa and email you a notification at your MyChemeketa email account when your Financial Aid Offer is ready.  Typically, financial aid offers start arriving in MyChemeketa email boxes in late spring term.

Disbursement is the process where your financial aid is used to pay your tuition and fees.  Any excess financial aid will be refunded to you to use for your other educational expenses after your tuition and fees are paid.  Read the Disbursement Information Sheet to learn more tips and information about the timing of financial aid disbursement.

Due to Covid-19 and the campus being placed in remote operations, most Federal Work-Study jobs are unavailable at this time.  The Financial Aid Office will continue to monitor the possibility for awarding Federal Work-Study funds to students as jobs become available remotely or via partial or full campus reopening.

If you drop all your classes or fail all your classes, Chemeketa Financial Aid must calculate how much of your financial aid you can keep and how much of your financial aid must be repaid. The Return of Title IV Funds Policy explains how this financial aid calculation works.  Students who drop all their classes after receiving financial aid or fail all their classes are ineligible for future financial aid.
